The historical photo archive holds around 500,000 images. The photo fonds cover the history of Eni and its founder Enrico Mattei, its technicians and managers in work and social life, the development of the search for oil, methanisation, the development and exportation of techniques for constructing infrastructure, service station networks, petrochemical and refining plants, real estate for offices and employees. This includes artistic photography by individual and famous studios such as Bruno Stefani, Federico Patellani, Aldo Ballo, Sam Waagenaar, Heinz Roettinger, John Phillips, Mimmo Jodice, Olivo Barbieri, Franco Fontana, Bruno Barbey, Donata Pizzi, Carlo Bavaglioli, Gianni Giansanti, Marco Anelli, Studio Rotofoto, Studio Giacomelli, Publifoto and Magnum Photos. The Archive also has a large collection of advertising from the 1920s to the 1990s.
