Agip wanted to add to its big service station and motel projects. It had its technicians design billboards for roads, adverts, countdown signs and any other text that might appear on company signs or vehicles. Even to laypeople, it was obvious nothing was being left to chance, from the colours Agip used to the size and alignment of the individual letters. Everything was designed to be in keeping with the new Agip style and unmistakable. Many of the technical drawings in the archive come with texts explaining whether or not the project was approved by the CEO at the time, Enrico Mattei. He always had the last word.
